Dr. Maha Alattar

Maha Alattar, M.D.

    Dr. Maha Alattar is a Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist who brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to Mary Washington Hospital. As the Director of the stroke program, she is part of the team that helped designate Mary Washington Hospital as a Primary Stroke Center. As a Sleep Medicine specialist, she enjoys treating patients with sleep disorders. Her approach to patient care is multifaceted and emphasizes healthy lifestyle practices such as proper diet, weight control, stress management and regular exercise.

    Dr Alattar received her medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis-College of Medicine. Subsequently, she completed her residency at Georgetown University Medical Center and her Fellowship training in Sleep Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Before joining Mary Washington Hospital, Dr. Alattar served as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where she served as the Director of Clinical Development (Sleep Medicine Clinic) and was active in research and in training residents and fellows.

    Dr. Alattar remains active as a researcher and educator in the fields of neurology and sleep medicine. She has written many book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. She has been interviewed by the local newspaper and appeared on a number of television and radio programs. She is regularly invited to travel throughout the country to present lectures on various topics.

    Dr. Alattar is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as the American Board of Sleep Medicine. She is a member of both the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
