| | | Rod L. Flynn, M.D. | Rod L. Flynn received his undergraduate degree from The University of Virginia and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Flynn completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He then completed a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center where he focused on the treatment of advanced abdominal malignancies. His fellowship also included extensive training in the management of breast and gynecologic cancers at McGee Women’s Hospital. He spent two years post-fellowship as a surgical oncologist at the Tate Cancer Center, a part of the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center. Dr. Flynn played a vital role in developing the surgical oncology department there, including co-developing the Cutaneous Oncology program. He was also on the adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the surgical oncology department at the Greenebaum Cancer Center. He was a regular participant in the multidisciplinary GI tumor conference at the University of Maryland. Dr. Flynn is a participating member of the Society of Surgical Oncology as well as the American College of Surgeons. He is board- certified in General Surgery and has a certificate in Surgical Oncology from the Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh. | Certifications

Dr. Flynn is the chair of the Gasto-Intestinal (GI) Tumor Committee at Mary Washington Hospital. This committee is composed of a panel of Fredericksburg’s top cancer experts. It is a program designed to discuss the management of GI tumors in a multidisciplinary fashion and to devise treatment plans for the most complex cases. |
